For those of you who have been following my blog for a while, you’ve also been following the story of little Rachida, the girl with hereditary retinoblastoma (eye cancer).
Yesterday I got a call from her mom who’s with her at the doctor in Bamako, Mali, and she said that the report is that it has gotten worse and that they now have no option other than surgery to remove both eyes. If you remember from last year, that is what they were told then and what they’ve been fighting against this whole time, changing doctors anytime one said that that was the only option. So now that this doctor also says the same thing, I’ve heard that the surgery is scheduled for this upcoming Thursday.
As you can imagine, this is a hard time for the family. Rachida’s mom asked me to look into getting fake eyes to make her appearance better, and I added that I’ll also be praying and asking all of you to pray. Not only is the loss of her eyes permanent, but the fact that the doctor says that it’s much worse makes me wonder if it means that the cancer has spread and will become terminal. I don’t have answers, but I know a God Who does and I thank you all in advance for praying for this precious little girl and her family.
Rachida will be in my prayers. Such a very hard decision to have to make. I will pray that the cancer hasn’t spread too…..praying for you and her family too.
