Looking FORWARD in January 2010

January 8, 2010 by Theo and Martha Enns

Happy New Year!

Glaro team translation seminar It’s hard to believe that it has been over 5 years since we had to be evacuated from Côte d’Ivoire; and over 10 years since our missionary colleagues had to flee from Liberia. But this month, some missionaries from Senegal (where we started serving 30 years ago) and Côte d’Ivoire will be taking a trip to evaluate the possibilities of evangelizing the Glaro tribe in Liberia again. (Leslie Wolfe is pressing on with the Glaro translation of Genesis in an Ivorian village, right now; while the Speitelsbachs study the tribal culture & language.)

This could be the year; this could be the year that the Lord returns … and Rev.1:7 says that that will be sad: “Look! He is returning with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes on the earth will mourn because of him. This will certainly come to pass! Amen.” (NetBible translation) Jesus is returning as Judge, and those that have not accepted Him as Savior will be devastated! We need to keep praying for those who are seeking to reach the tribes – praying and giving and even asking God if He wants us to go!

The Groenvelds are translating Luke for the Komono tribe, from a neighboring country, and have been able to visit the new believers in Côte d’Ivoire who want to start a new local church for Komono-speakers. Translated portions of the Bible are being recorded onto MP3 players so that the Word can be spread throughout this tribe, who largely follow their old animistic ways and a forms of another major religion. The Groenvelds need a new house built for them in the remote village where they live.

PRAY:

1- for safety and wisdom for the missionaries travelling in West Africa, looking for the best place to live and reach the Glaro tribespeople.

2- for insight and exactness for those translating the Bible into the Glaro and Komono languages (among others) in Côte d’Ivoire.

3- for our own effectiveness in mission projects, in doing the part God gives us to do in preparing His Bride for His return.

PRAISE:

1- for inroads to reaching more unreached tribes in Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia.

2- for tribal believers who desire to spread the Word to those around them.

3- for God’s protection (when Theo fell) and for providing for us as we serve Him from here in Alabama.

Serving until He comes,
