Luggage in February 2013

February 7, 2013 by Theo and Martha Enns

PTL that all our luggage arrived: with us, and with no customs fees!

Trying to load our crates on the BHM pick-up.

First we were over-weight for the amount of luggage we had told the Missionary Flights International (MFI) that we would be needing to take to Haiti. We had packed all night long, Monday January 28 to 29th. Then we drove a U-Haul truck from Alabama to the MFI guest house in Ft.Pierce, Florida. At weigh-in, Wednesday morning, they suggested that our larger crates might need to go on a later flight, the following week. But the next day, when we landed in the Bahamas to let off a missionary family there, the missionary pilot assured us that all of our crates were on board. Arriving finally at Port-au-Prince, we expected our 3 crates to be delegated as cargo for separate customs negotiations the following week. To our surprise, even the largest 300+-pound crate came through on the baggage-claim carousel  and was put on a luggage cart. By God’s grace, the customs officials waved us through with no unnecessary hassle.

More intervention by God got our luggage on 13 airport carts all the way up the cobble-stoned street from the airport to the Baptist Haiti Mission pick-up truck. Then, another BHM SUV was called in to come help transport our 45 pieces of luggage, but it still wouldn’t all fit. So finally the Mission dump truck was also recruited, to add our crates to their load of lumber … and after having got up at 5am that morning, by 5:15pm that evening we finally arrived at the BHM guest apartment. Just the story of our luggage all arriving intact, after all these multiple miracles of God, reminds us to thank the Lord for your many prayers for us as we moved to Haiti.  Our “permanent” apartment here has not been finished yet: since it is being built largely by volunteer “missions’ trip” helpers – and we still need kitchen cabinets and closets installed throughout, over the next couple months. But…

PRAISE GOD with us:

– for our safe arrival in Haiti, with all our luggage as well;

– for the 330 elementary schools that are asking for a French Bible curriculum to be developed for Haiti;

– for the warm reception we received, as we team up with the Baptist Haiti Mission.

PRAY with us:

– for us to be able to quickly assimilate (& learn) the Haitian culture and Creole language;

– for the completion of the Second Grade Bible lessons and workbooks, to be printed for next school year;

– for our adjustment to Haiti: new missionary co-workers, and new Haitian friends & teachers, to help us in the curriculum project.

We look forward to seeing all the Lord is doing here in Haiti. We will be posting pictures on our web site, from time to time.

We again thank the Lord for you, our ministry partners, and would love to hear from you, as well.

Together for the school children of Haiti,

Theo & Martha Enns
