New Adventures in this new Season

January 3, 2021 by Tim and Andrea Ullum

New Year’s Greetings! We wanted to send out a few pictures and updates on what our ministry in town and in the villages has looked like these last few months!

This is how we were welcomed into the country, with a 3 day quarantine in the big city before making our last flight to the island we live on. But the nice thing is it gave us a chance to get some extra rest and get over jet lag a bit.

After about a month of staying at the mission home complex we had done enough setup for us to move into a house we are using here in town. It’s a very different feel from the village but has been such a great fit for us! It’s on a plot of land where there are 2 other families, a dorm for 15 college students, and also the little church we attend here. We’re forever thankful for electricity, running water, and internet which are things that are always sketchy in our village home.

In the picture above are some of our close friends here in town that we do ministry with being silly after practicing for the Christmas program!

The above pictures were some of the December activities we enjoyed. Andrea hosted a ladies Advent dessert night, the girls did a party with the teen groups, and we enjoyed an all church meal and Christmas program!

For a week right at Christmas we made our first trip back into the village where we have served all these years. It was so much fun connecting with our partners in there, visiting friends, having a Christmas celebration with the believers, and making new memories in our old home! We got to spend part of a day making sticky rice that is cooked in bamboo over the fire. It’s a special treat everyone enjoys and it was the Christmas celebration snack.

Our meeting was very airy! If you notice there is no back wall on this house yet so we had a nice breeze for our church service!
Pouring freshly grated and squeezed coconut cream water into the bamboo that’s filled with glutenous rice. Dina was actually having a good time even though this picture doesn’t show it:)
The older team kids enjoyed decorating gingerbread houses sent all the way from the US by our sender team! Thank you! and the littles decorated cut out cookies!

The day after Christmas we headed out of the village and halfway to town Tim met up with a team of guys that would then take a survey trip 7 hours up the river. Andrea headed the rest of the way home with the kids.

The team met with a couple groups of believers who are asking for a team to come and live with them and teach them God’s Word in their heart language. Tim enjoyed going along with a couple of the men and hunting wild pig. As you can see they were successful!

Tim did a pig hunt during the survey trip. They got a nice one not far from the village they were staying in.

As you can see we have had opportunities to be involved in a variety of ministry activities. 8th grade is also going well and we’ve gotten into a good routine for the girls. They have had time with several friends that live close by which is an answer to our prayers for good relationships for them. They also have a tutor each week who is helping them with their local language skills!

Abby found a tame butterfly!

With being part of the leadership team now we have also had many responsibilities of helping with member care, decision making, and directing the newer missionary families.

We’re very thankful for the ways God is continuing to direct us in this season of our lives and ministy! Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers and notes. We truly enjoy staying in touch with many of you through WhatApp and have loved hearing what is going on in your lives as well!

Blessings for new opportunities to trust the Lord this year and be convinced of His watch care and sovereignty in all the events of our lives and this world.

Glad to hear all is going well! Would love to send a picture. What is the best way to do that? Digital?
