Restrictions lifting… Good evaluation results! Getting beat by a baby…
We are thankful that over the past month our virus-related restrictions have been able to loosen up a bit. Locally there are very few confirmed cases, so we are able to get out for errands and a bit of exploration. This also means that we now have FOUR live language-learning sessions per week with our language helpers. We also recently began an additional grammar class on Fridays that will help us develop and improve our grammar.
On July 15th we had our first official language evaluation to see how we are doing! Amazingly, by God’s grace, we both tested very well. In some ways we have been able to make more progress in language learning than if we had come without a pandemic. This was due to the extra help and materials we received from our leadership team here which allowed us to focus more time on studying. We have missed out on a lot of relationships and cultural understanding but perhaps have made up for it by advancing quicker in the language.
Our family continues to do well. We spend almost all of our time together and are growing and constantly learning to function better as a team. Moriah is talking a lot these days–sometimes we aren’t sure which language she is speaking, but her vocab is certainly expanding daily! We’re pretty sure she is beating us in this whole language learning thing, especially since she’s learning two languages at once! It’s so fun to watch her learn and grow.
We thank you so much for your prayers and support! We aren’t alone and we feel it. We have a lot of work ahead of us and it is a bit overwhelming at times, but we are reminded by the truth in God’s Word that we can have joy in all circumstances and that He is with us always. Little by little…
– Special Note –
Our visa situation (a “visa” is a permit to legally be in the country–not a credit card 🙂 ) is a bit up in the air right now due to the closed borders and embassies around the world. To get our next visa, we need to: leave the country, go to an embassy representing this country, and pick up our new visa. Normally it’s pretty simple to just hop over to a neighboring country but right now there are no embassies or countries with open borders to accept us . Please pray for some borders/a nearby country to open, or for a way to get the new visas without having to leave the country and deal with quarantines and the travel issues of a pandemic.
We celebrated our 5th Anniversary last month. We also celebrated our first birthday in our home here.
