Last Month in Pictures

April 17, 2017 by Bill & Katie Streeter

As I mentioned in our update letter, we’d have a video here and quite a few pictures to share with ya’ll! The last 2 months have been a time of adjustment and learning for our family. Most of the pictures speak for themselves, so I’ll let them do what they do best!

Aute is our primary language helper. He’s an exuberant man who’s energy seems to have no bounds. A lot of language learning is simply listening to and telling, or trying to tell, stories about every day life. On this particular day we’d purchased a coconut from the market, and since I’ve never opened one we asked Aute if he’d story how he opens it. He storied about not only opening it, but also about uses for and how he’d use one. It’s a good taste of the pidgin language we’re learning.

Yes, yes this is as close to a family picture as we’ve gotten!
James’ 2nd birthday!
Cake! Lemon with lemon buttercream frosting…
James blowing out his candles!
Nothing like a kazoo band to help a birthday party!
James. No I needn’t say more.
Pict people!
Liam…learning to rollerblade.
Esta holding a guava from the tree!
Schoolwork on a tricycle. Why not?
Liam’s hobby of the week, rubber band bracelets
Katie’s unsure…avacados or dinosaur eggs?
Liam carrying the palm branch to the burn pile…
Rainy season in PNG. This rain brought 1.5″ of rain in about 1 hour while we were playing soccer on Sunday afternoon.
Footbridge over the Asaro River
Walking path alongside the river. In wet season, this path is literally falling into the river about 20 feet below.
House and garden in a local village.
NTM Center as viewed from the next mountain over.
Typical foot path between villages.
House and garden alongside the national highway.
House and garden alongside the national highway.
The national highway, taken from another section of the national highway as it weaves through the mountains.
The Home Depot of PNG.
Sheep tongue, quite often sold at Kai bars for lunch. Liam was not impressed.
Bars of hand soap at a store in town…I love all the colors!
Esta and the dentist who fixed her tooth down at SIL.
Mud! Mud balls! Mud cakes! Mud!!!!!!
Cheese! Papua New Guinea doesn’t really have a cheese industry, so most of the cheese in this country is from New Zealand.
Observing nature…
