Back in August of 2020 we started our Tech Specialist class with 5 men. These men have the desire to serve the Lord over seas but wanted to have more advanced training in solar, AC and DC power, generators, building, water purification, refrigeration and welding to list a few. Here at OFF GRID TECH we were able to provide them with four very in-depth modules that cover all they were looking for and more. The four modules that were taught are, Solar Electric Technology that has 147 classroom hours, Power systems that has 147 classroom hours, Construction Technology that has 147 classroom hours and Equipment Maintenance that has 154 classroom hours. Yes, that is a lot of classroom hours but those hours are not just in a class room with lecture but out doing labs on those topics as well as independent study on different topics that will relate to the area they are going to serve in.
One of the labs beside what you see in the pictures above, was for them to do a radio order. The regular students were participate in Simple Living class, where they are living out in the woods for a while. During this time of living in the woods they get the chance to order what ever they need by radio. This is a simulation for how it is done when you live in a remote location. You call by radio and order what you need, a buyer takes the order and then gets what is needed and then packs it on the plane to be flown into your location. The Tech Specialists men had the chance to be the buyer. They took the orders and then went and picked up what was ordered and then delivered it.
Our small engines class also was able to spill over into the Simple Living class. In the small engines class we cover all types of small engines but we do focus on chainsaws a lot. A chainsaw is used a lot over seas, so we spend time on how to fix and maintain them as well as how to use them safely.
One of the last classes that I get the opportunity to teach is welding. The students really liked this class as we covered all the different types of welding but focused on SMAW or stick welding. Stick welding is still the main welding type that is available in the areas we work.
Please pray for these men and their families as they prepare to go into all the world. They are going not only to preach the Gospel but also to serve their fellow missionaries with the gifts that they have.
Thank you, for the encouragement. Yes, I love what I do and could not find a better place to do it and one to do it for.
Hi Ernest,
As I look at these pictures I think…..The Lord has been good to Ernest. He is doing exactly what he enjoys….and is fortunate to be doing it for the Lord, whom he serves, and is halping so many others as they seek to serve the Lord, too. It can’t be better than that!
