As our family continues preparing for ministry in Mexico, we are often inspired by news of what God is already doing among Mexico’s unreached. These updates are a welcome reminder that God is not dependent on us to accomplish His purposes in Mexico, encouraging us greatly on days when our departure seems too far in the future! They are also an exciting window into a few years down the road, as we see our friends and coworkers laboring on tasks for which we ourselves have trained.
While training with New Tribes in Missouri, Amy and I met Pete and Liesl Hypki – a neat missionary couple who had just finished their initial two year term in Mexico, and were preparing to begin planting a church among the Nahuatl (think ‘Now What?’) people. We took heart at that time to hear how God had provided for them through the seasons of raising support and learning Spanish… and now, we find similar encouragement in hearing how God has blessed their work among the Nahuatl.
Take a moment to read about the Hypkis’ first two years among the Nahuatl – then stop to consider both how much work they have done, and how much yet remains. Would you please pray for Pete and Liesl, who faithfully work to learn the Nahuatl language and culture in order that God’s Word may one day be made known among them? And please pray as well for the Nahuatl themselves – that God would clear the barriers to their understanding of who He is, and draw them to Himself through the coming teaching of the Gospel.
Overall, this has been quite an encouraging week for our family! Despite misadventures here and there (ever flush your keys down the toilet just before a cross-state trip?!), we arrived back in Spokane safely and have continued working full speed! God provided four meetings for us this week, and we look forward to more sharing opportunities as He continues to place them before us. We look forward to the coming week, and its timely reminder of how much God has given us!
Praising God: We are thanking God this week for the privilege of serving Him together as a family, and that He uses us for His glory… not because we have anything to offer, but despite everything that might prevent that use!
Prayer Request:Please pray for us over this next week – our family recently experienced a difficult personal loss, and we appreciate your prayers for God’s comfort in our lives.
