down to the wire!

February 29, 2012 by Lance and Laura Ostman

I wonder, do those people know Christ? We hope and pray that this finds each of you encouraged in the Lord. The picture above reminds us that there are still many unreached people groups in the world living like this that need PEOPLE to bring them the good news of Jesus Christ. Are you praying for laborers?

As we write this update there are some verses that come to kind

  •   Proverbs 3:5-6(NKJV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

We are feeling some different emotions these days. Excitement as our time draws near to leave for the Philippines; Pre-travel nerves as we anticipate the long trip and as we await the return of our passports with our visas! They should arrive a day or two before we leave. Yeah – it is right down to the wire! So, please PRAY – PRAY – PRAY!

We are grateful to God for giving Lance discipline as he works on translating for the Higaunon. He has gotten a lot done in the book of Judges and should finish it before we leave. This means he will be checking the books of Numbers through Judges during our time back in the village. There is a lot to do and we ask that you please pray that we will rely completely on God and not our own strength in the coming months.

  • Psalm 37:23 – The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

Do you ever ask God to confirm to your heart that you are right where He wants you to be? That has been a prayer of ours over the past year. To be honest, we have had a doubt or two from time to time since returning to the US. We want to make sure we are exactly where He has placed us. We do not want to be doing anything in our own strength! We are grateful for the things that God has brought into our lives confirming that we are where He has placed us. Many of these things are seemingly small but all of them have spoken loudly to our hearts!

We have been making a few purchases for things we need to bring with us and the house is starting to look like we are going somewhere with packages accumulating and bags being packed. Thanks to each of you who have given towards our trip.  If there are others who wish to do so, you can click on the “give” button at the top of this page.

Here is a new prayer request. Our church here in Florida has asked Lance if he would join with a team they are sending to Haiti for a week in July. The cost is $1400.00, but we are confident that God will work out the details if He wants him to go. We have to decide by March 14, which by the way is our departure date for the Philippines.

Indeed, we covet your prayers for us. We are amazed that God has allowed us the privilege to be involved in His great commission. What a blessing!

  • Ephesians 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

Secure in Christ’s love,

Lance & Laura
