We’re doing what?!

October 6, 2021 by Lance and Laura Ostman

He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Mark 6:31 .

Percentage completed: We received an email the other day from our field leadership team that the Higaunon Old Testament is 49.1 percent complete. We’re getting there! Thanks go to each of you who partner with us in making this possible. Please pray for wisdom for us and our coworkers as we continue working on the translation. Our coworker Ron has been working on having the scriptures recorded for the people to use on their phones and on audio players.

On a side note, for those interested, click on these links to see the progression of the audio players we’ve used over the years. The hand-wind cassette player (lots of moving parts) The Saber player (less moving parts) And finally the Papyrus audio player which is has NO moving parts! YAY! More moving parts = more maintenance.

Time spent: I keep track of time spent on my work and this past month included 164 hours of work on translation, eight hours were spent in partnership development and another almost two hours in inner mission communication. This is how I spend my time in a typical month and we began to realize just how tired we are. By the time Friday afternoon rolls around I feel brain dead. Well, maybe “dead” isn’t the right word but you get the idea.

Taking a break: So, we are going to take a break! We’re ashamed to say that it has been a few years since we took a vacation where we didn’t have work with us.  We looked for somewhere close by as we didn’t want to spend a lot of time just getting somewhere. And we found a lovely secluded “cabin” north of Oklahoma City. Three hundred acres to hike and ride an ATV – and they said to bring fishing gear. For an added fee they’ll add meals and since the wife is Filipina, we’ll ask for some of the foods we miss.

Please pray for our time away; for safety; that we’ll be refreshed and return rejuvenated.
