Thank you! We are so thankful for your prayers for us. God answered a prayer from our last update. We asked you to pray as we were looking to the Lord to replace our central air-conditioning. The heat index the past weeks has been in the 100s. Praise the Lord with us that the old unit has been replaced. We are very thankful for those who prayed and for those who gave.
Please pray: And now we want you to pray for a friend. Two weeks ago today in the Philippines a dear friend and long-time coworker was killed instantly in a head-on collision. Bob was doing what he loved – laboring for our Lord, delivering Bible lessons which he faithfully worked on for students and pastors. For years Bob had developed lessons in the trade language and taught students in the classrooms until Covid hit. Bob continued to work on getting lessons out to students who were reading them to their families in their homes. Only God knows the ripple affect of Bob’s labor over the years. We’ve been praying daily for Bob’s widow, Nancy, her adult children and extended family as they grieve. Tomorrow (9/7) Nancy will be on her way to the USA. She texted us earlier that it will be 48 hours of travel. Please pray with us for her.
Think about it: When tragedy strikes it makes us stop and consider how quickly life can change. When someone receives a bad diagnosis at least we have time to prepare mentally for the possibility of death. Yet when someone is killed suddenly it is a huge shock. Our hearts ache for so many who are grieving the loss of a loved one these days. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 139:16 I especially like how the NLT puts it – “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” What a comfort to know that for all of us God knows the number of our days and the moment of our leaving this earthly life is no surprise to HIM. Since we have no guarantee of tomorrow or even our next breath, it should cause us to want to make each day, each moment, count for eternity.
Labor Day: Today is Labor Day in the US – recognizing those who labor across our country. Lance continues to labor over the old testament translation for the Higaunon, checking for accuracy and content. We are so grateful for each of you who labor with us in prayer and financial partnership which allows us to do what we do so the Higaunon can have more of the Scripture in their language. The Bible app continues to be a blessing to those who are using it – especially where they have no physical copy of the Scriptures. Please do continue to pray for our coworkers, Ron and Michelle Jennings, who are in the village, as well as the Higaunon church leaders and Bible teachers.
Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” Thank you to all who labor and minister.
Secure in Christ’s love,
Laura (for Lance too)
