Translation Work, a wedding, and house repairs…

April 2, 2023 by Lance and Laura Ostman

Waiting for the attendants to get the bride and groom and bring them to the church.

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Psalm 127:1a

Halfway

We are about halfway through our scheduled time in the Philippines. Since our last update Lance has been busy with the initial checks of the books he’s been working on from our home in Oklahoma. Checking the book of Ecclesiastes went well and took just over a week to complete this first check. The initial check of Ezekiel is about halfway completed. It’s taking a lot of time, and we’re not sure we’ll get it done on this trip.

A wedding

A wedding took place here last week. The sign says, “The two are one in the Lord.” The daughter of one of the church pastors married a young man from the Banwaon people group. Normally, these two groups wouldn’t have any contact with one another. But, because of the influence of the gospel, they have had a lot of opportunities to spend time in each other’s villages, allowing young people to meet one another. The languages are similar, but the differences are very interesting. The Higaunon word for sufficient is the Banwaon word for lacking. The Higaunon word for problem/concern is the Banwaon word for tobacco seed. The Banwaon word for miracle is the worse cuss word for the Higaunon. These are just a few of the many differences! Elvin and Jaquilyn would appreciate your prayers for them as they begin life together serving the Lord.

Our house

Repairs on our house are coming along, albeit slowly. The wedding stopped all work for several days. And of course, while doing the repairs, more issues have come up. Those termites caused a lot of damage! We look forward to seeing the repairs completed.

Please pray

Lance has been having some numbness in his left leg. This is probably the same thing he had in 2015. Please pray for relief.

Thank you

We praise the Lord for His faithfulness in our lives and that we have people like you whom He has led to partner with us in prayer and financial support. We’ve mentioned two “houses” per se, in this update. Whether a new marriage or a house renovation, if God isn’t the One doing the work, then the labor is indeed in vain.

A blessed Resurrection Day to you all!

Secure in Christ’s love alone,

Lance and Laura
