Thank you very much for your support. Just this very day we received a surprising package from some of our supporters in the New Life Baptist Church and how encouraging this was!
Thanks for your encouraging letters, packages and prayer! Every day we understand even more the need for continual prayer support. As we face these people and the situation they are in we realize than only God can make a difference, through the working of his Spirit!
As I told you previously we are planning to move to the Islands Region. It has been one of the harder decisions for us to make. We have been interested in working in the Gulf Province but leadership decided not to open this region soon. Furthermore we are looking at existing works with need of team members and this is really challenging our thinking as well. There are so many needs and sometimes I wish we could help in all these areas!
Here is a little more info on the Islands region of Papua New Guinea. The Islands is one of four regions of Papua New Guinea. It comprises of the following Islands: East and West New Britain, Manus, New Ireland and North Solomons (Bougainville).
East and West New Britain the largest Ireland. East New Brittan’s capital is Kokopo, not far from the old capital of Rabaul, which was largely destroyed in a 1994 volcanic eruption. East New Britain covers a total land area of 15,816 km², and the province has an estimated population of 220,133. West New Britain’s capital is Kimbe and is close to our base in Hoskins. The area of the province in 21,000 km², and there are 184,508 inhabitants.
The Islands, like much of Papua New Guinea, has a mixture of the old and the new: traditional cultural practices are widespread and almost universally respected, yet society is changing as a result of church activity, urbanisation, and various aspects of global contemporary culture making their mark, especially closer to the coast.
There are about 130 tribes within this region and New Tribes are currently working amongst 25 of these.
Please continue to pray for us as we move to the Hoskins base in August this year. Pray that the Lord would provide in all our needs. Marie will have to go to Port Moresby during October to get the baby. We will then fall in with the team there and only next year sometime we will at last join some work there! Pray with us that we will trust in Him for our daily bread, and wait patiently upon Him to show us the tribe He wants us to work in.
Thanks for giving, writing and praying, may God richly bless you!
And as the Papuan’s would say:
‘lukim ju sampla taim’
Most People are brought to faith in Christ, not by argument for it,
But by exposure to it.
