In these days we have been busy with a translation workshop during which we had the opportunity to sharpen our skills in discourse analysis and applying this as we translate Gods Word. We are so thankful that you are making it possible for us to translate Gods Word in the Mengen language. You are making it possible for these people to read Gods Word.
We actually had our helpers getting all emotional and overwhelmed by the fact that they have helped us translate verses in Ruth and Luke for the first time in Mengen History. And that for the rest of the ages these Words will be making a difference in people’s lives!
In these days we have been hearing about how the Source Language and the Receptor Language, begins a new subject, make clear the topic, hang it together and complete what they are saying.
Not just that but we also learned about the progression in a text which shows the diversity of elements and seen that cohesion provides the unity and is the unfolding nature of a sequence during which we need to take note of old information and new information. But do not forget that progression and cohesion is two aspects of the same phenomena.
And just today we learned about referential relations which includes time either sequential, simultaneous or with causal overlay. Do not forget about Cause reporting relations during which we need to understand the relation between Orienteer and the speech between the Orienteer and cognition and between Quotation and source
And lastly the Presentational relations which cold either be Associative, Monitoring relations or Authorial comment
This is only a small blob of what we have been doing these last 10 days. You might not be able to understand it, but that is why we are here in your stead. God has opened a door for us and given as opportunities to learn translation principles and apply them.
