Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Mamusi Church and complete a Mature Church Evaluation we started a while back. Here is a clip that gives you guys a bit of an idea of what we have done. These evaluations help us determine areas that the church has needs in, and then help us […]
It’s been too long since I last wrote. So, my thoughts and memories are messy. I wanted to write shortly after Naomi left for the US in August. I had lots to say then. But I did not. Then I thought Christmas is a good time for a newsletter. Again- nothing. Now I catch myself […]
I start by saying a BIG THANK YOU to you guys for your help and supporting us as we are working here in Papua New guinea! I am sharing this news with you today because there is NO WAY how we could ever do what we have done, this past year and years if it was not […]
I start by saying a BIG THANK YOU to you guys for your help and supporting the Mengen Work in New Britain! Through God’s Grace He has planted His church and He is growing His church! Why are we still here? During one of our recent trips I was reminded of our calling by the following words […]
Hi Friends We have been back in PNG for about 3 months now, and it’s about time to give a quick update about what’s been happening. Marie will be working on some personal news, and I will share a bit of a ministry update with you all. Reunited with coworkers –Since we have been back, […]
The Mengen church was born in 2009; ten years later, the translation of Scripture is nearly complete, and the three churches are reaching out. But they lack resources for literacy kits, Bible lessons and Bibles. The Mengen believers do want to take advantage of opportunities to take God’s Word to more distant villages, some of […]
In these days I got the sad news that another Mengen believer has passed away. He and his family are very precious to me. When we moved into the area in 2009, this family was the first to open their hearts and home to me and Marie. It’s very very hard for me, as they have become my family! I would want to be there with them. I would want to spend a few days with them, standing at their backs! But this is God’s plan for me for now.
As you know we are not working among the Mengen on our own! We are part of a much larger team. It all starts back here at home and stretches all the way to where we are working. And each link is vital. Check out this blog, and see how you can be part of this chain reaching the Mengen.
Before we enter any people group, we first conduct different surveys. We thus first visit specific people groups who often invite us to come and live amongst them, to help us evaluate what the need is and to present to them the purpose of what we are wanting to come and do. Last year I […]
The “hausboi” is a Pidgen term, for a men’s house. In Mengen they call it “Giunga.” In our Mengen culture, this is a house only for men. Young boys used to leave their homes and move into the men’s house when they are between 10 – 13 years old and then they get introduces to […]
It is now 6 months since we arrived here in South Africa. And even though we long for our home back in Papua New Guinea, we can thankfully summarize by saying, “The Laureti’s are doing very well”. Those first few weeks here felt like a whirlwind… landing in JHB, some medical appointments, seeing friends and […]
Many moons ago, a nervous me, landed in our bush village between the Mengen valleys and mountains. It was only for a short visit, to meet our future co-workers and meet the Mengen friends amongst whom we would live for the next roughly 20 years of our lives. During this time I met Brus and […]
Hi Friends Marie and I have been sharing this morning about our joys and tribulations as missionaries in Papua New Guinea, and it was interesting to note, that our joys are actually our tribulations when handled correctly. One of these challenges for us was to have to raise a special needs child in our family. […]
Hi Friends Hope you are all doing great today! Another friend I would like to introduce to you guys and ask that you would pray for him is, Alex. He is the older brother of Brus, maybe you can remember him? Any way Alex is also a very special friend of mine and someone I dearly […]
Hi Friends Its always amazing to see how God is planting His church worldwide but also in Papua New Guinea amongst the Mengen people. Not many years ago they were in darkness, but many have placed their trust in Christ and now they are goring into a self-sufficient church! Just this morning, I received the […]
