“Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly,… Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;… The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures for ever – do not abandon the works of your hands.” Psalm 138:6-9
God strengthened my heart this week with those verses in Psalm 138. Things aren´t always going the way we want them to go. And sometimes we don’t understand God and why He doesn’t intervene since nothing is impossible for Him.
Since July it hasn’t rained here. What has always been green and fresh all year long is now yellow and brown. Small harmless fires go out of control and suddenly become huge fires across the mountains destroying gardens, bamboo and grass which the Dinangat people dearly need for food and building houses. Some can water their gardens with bamboo water pipes but some just can’t because of the location of their gardens. Our small hydro system which provides enough power for our computers, lights and fridges is producing very little power now, making it very difficult to function. Every day we pray, “Lord, please give us rain!”
The Lord is on high, He is sovereign over everything. The believers here are certain of that. Whenever we talk about the weather, which is pretty much daily :), we encourage each other with words like in Psalm 138… “The Lord is on high, He knows what we need, He is good and will not forget about us! Every day we will have exactly what we need!”
We just spent 3 wonderful weeks together with our older girls Naomi and Rebekka because they were on school break. Tomorrow they will fly back to Goroka. We will get to see them again over the Christmas break. It is hard to let go of them again and again. Sometimes I just don’t want this anymore and I wonder how much longer I can do it. But the Lord is on high, He is sovereign, right?! He sees me, He preserves me, He will fulfill his purpose for me and our family for His love endures forever. I know that this is true and even though sometime things are hard I know that we can trust in Him! Because we know that He is above everything and He is good, we can be calm in the midst of hard things in our lives.
We hope that you, too, can be encouraged in Him today! Thank you for standing with us in prayer and support! We truly appreciate you all!
