Emergencies never make an appointment! A few days ago, while Stephen was in the office preparing a Bible lesson, a village leader suddenly entered our yard. He had found a young boy on the ground in pain. The boy had fallen out of a Star Apple tree and apparently had broken his leg. He needed medical help and the village leader was asking if Stephen could take the child to the hospital in town. Stephen took the boy and his family to a hospital about a 20-minute drive from the village. Unfortunately, the first hospital didn’t have an x-ray machine. So after the hospital put a stint made from layers of a banana tree on the boy’s leg, Stephen took him to the other hospital in town. This hospital confirmed that the leg was broken by taking an x-ray, but was unable to do anything about the leg. The boy and his family made their way to the capital city the next morning. They once again sought medical help from a hospital there but were told to go to a different hospital. Four days later, a cast was finally put on his leg. Not just one leg, but on both legs and around his waist. One week after falling out of the tree, they were able to return home to the village.
We are grateful that we had the opportunity to help this family with their medical emergency. The mother of this boy is a believer, and has been having many struggles lately. While this was another difficult time, it was amazing to see the Lord provide for the finances of this surgery, both through our team and through other sources. Please pray that her faith in Christ will continue to grow, and she will not be discouraged in the face of the difficulties she has been enduring.
