Look at this picture.  You’ll probably see many things in it and wonder what it’s a picture of.  It’s actually a picture of part of the wall on the front of my house, next to my porch.  Yes, I do have an outlet on my porch, so that’s what you see.  You’ll notice the – […]

Here, there is a new policy that most health care is free for pregnant women and for children under the age of 5. However, it gets a bit complicated knowing how old kids are, especially in the village, since they often don’t have birth certificates and people often don’t actually know how old they […]

There are lots of gold mines in My Country. The other day I went to visit the one closest to my house in the village, just to see what it actually looked like out there. As I was there, I got to spend time with a leader in the squatter village that sprung up around […]

One of the January jobs in the village is gathering firewood so that they’ll have it on hand even when they get busy in the fields and the rains come and such. After several days of them saying that I couldn’t join them, my host mom and her daughter-in-law finally agreed that I could […]

When was the last time you helped someone’s dream come true? Or were told by a neighbor and friend, “It’s what I always wanted, but I had no idea how I’d ever get one?” I guess one of the perks of being a missionary is that you can do some pretty amazing things, things […]

You never know what a day here will look like.  Or I should rephrase that: I never know what a day here will look like.  And I suppose you don’t, either, since I’ve never told you.  So I’ll tell you what one day recently looked like.  Just don’t assume that other days will look […]

One thing that my friends in the village really like is movie nights by whoever has some kind of sceen to play movies on and a solar panel big enough to charge it.  They would probably like me to have a movie night every night, but I’m just not that nice.  Often I’m just […]

Rachida’s mom Awa just sent me this picture and I thought that those of you who continue to pray for Rachida and follow her story would like to see it too. Rachida has the pink head scarf on. You’ll notice that she has one fake eye and hasn’t gotten the second one yet. Her […]

Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written.  I’m sure you understand with the holidays and such, though.  But thanks so much for your ongoing prayers, even when I’m slow in communication! Rachida’s surgery did go as scheduled on the 12th, and they said that it went well.  Thanks for bathing it in prayers! The […]

It’s over.  And by “it,” I mean our winter.  Sadly. At least that’s what my language helper said after he came to greet me this evening.  And it’s true – it’s not nearly as chilly as it was a week ago.  I think that my one evening with a hoodie was the only one I’ll […]
