There is a famous ballet called “Swan Lake.” In this ballet, there are two main female leads – Odile and Odette. One is good and one is bad. I often forget which is which, though. Here in French choir at my church, one of the girls’ names is Odile. But whenever I heard it, my […]

I went “downtown” today for the first time since this political turmoil started last week. And I came back thinking about how much I love and appreciate this country. You see . . . – The country isn’t stable yet. There are talks going on today between the interim president and the leader of the […]

I’ve never used a spray-on tan before, but Wednesday, after our crazy road trip, it felt like I had. I arrived home well-tanned, but after scrubbing and scrubbing in the shower a lot of it came off, as you can see in these before and after pictures. The back of my neck was still a […]

On Wednesday, as part of the research I was doing with another missionary couple, 4 of us took a major road trip. We were gone for 13 ½ hours, of which I was on the back of a moto for at least 6. I don’t understand those people who do cross-country motorcycle trips – by […]

Six hours on the back of a motorcycle, bumping along dirt roads that would be unpassable by car, with a slightly-too-large helmet crashing against my head if we took a pothole a little too fast, isn’t my idea of fun anymore. Adventure, yes. Fun, no. Worth it for the gospel, yes. Before missionaries can work […]

A few things happened today that don’t seem out of place here, but growing up in Wisconsin I don’t think that I would ever have imagined them happening. Welcome to the missionary life. You know you’re a missionary when . . . . . . you have three Bibles stacked on your coffee table that […]

I made it! For those of you following my Facebook posts, you’ll know that contrary to my plans, I didn’t make it home to My Country when I was planning. The Air France strike caused my flights to get canceled twice, so I ended up leaving Chicago O’Hare last Thursday, which was the day before […]

Wow, it has been a good but busy summer back in the US! Here are a few of the many things I’ve done the last two months: – Get together with lots of people to share more about what God’s doing in West Africa – Help other missionaries with linguistics – Go to the zoo, […]
