Yesterday I got to thinking and I realized that this “thing” we’re planning on doing has never before been done in the history of the world. No one has ever planted a maturing, growing church among our people group. They have among other, related people groups, but not our People. That means that there is […]

On Friday nights I’ve been teaching English to some people in my church. Many people here want to learn English, so this is a way to be a blessing to them. For the advanced class, part of the time we talk through Bible stories, and last Friday was the Tower of Babel. As I was […]

When you’re riding in a car with a new driver, you’ll notice that it’s not necessarily a smooth ride. Instead it’s often jerky: sometimes you feel like you’re at a standstill, then you jerk ahead just to slow down again. It’s after the new driver has gotten the hang of the gas and the break […]

In April of 2013, I wrote a blog post titled, “Dear Mr. Pole-Vaulter.” You can read it here: https://blogs.ethnos360.org/susie-l/2013/04/05/dear-mr-pole-vaulter/. I talked about how it would be easier to transport a pole for pole vaulting than a harp here, since I often see long poles on motos but never harps. However, that isn’t true anymore. I […]

Merry Christmas!  This Christmas time I was asked to make a short video about Christmas in My Country for my home church, and I’d like to share it with you, too, so you can get a glimpse of what celebrations of Jesus’ birthday will look like here.  It’s not the same as in the US! […]

I read a missions article recently, and one of the sentences read something like this: “In a few short years he learned the difficult language and planted a church.” What?!? It’s something […]

Ah, I love the weather in December here! It’s true that there is dust everywhere, but the temperatures are beautiful. It’s the first time I’ve seen temperatures as low as the 70s since I was in the US this summer. At night it can even get down into the 60s. So wonderful. Today I even […]

For those of you who read my last post, you may remember that I was working on a huge Country-Wide Assessment for the country of Guinea as part of my People Group Assessment work. It’s done! I was able to “turn it in” the week after Thanksgiving, and now it’s in the hands of NTM’s […]

Happy Thanksgiving! Since today is Thanksgiving, I wanted this update to take the form of a few of the many things I’ve been thankful for lately. Here you go – 1. I am thankful that there is peace here in My Country. There has been unrest in parts of West Africa lately, so I’m grateful […]

Tonight one of my friends was sick and she said that she was going home to head to bed early to get some rest. But before she left, she said that she weighed herself and realized that she had lost 10 pounds. She still looked the same weight to me, and didn’t look unhealthily skinny. […]
