Verses for the day
- Ps 119:124-125 My eyes strain to see your rescue, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled. I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love, and teach me your decrees. Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws.
Devotional
Sometimes it’s hard to see what God is doing. I often wish that God would let us in on HIs plan. I’d think it would make enduring the suffering or hardship easier. Would you all agree? David said, “I strain to see how you are going to fix this. I struggle to see the truth of your promise fulfilled.” Can you relate to that? I certainly have had many days like that over the past months of this journey.
David goes on to say, “Deal with me in unfailing love, and teach me your decrees.” What an attitude. Help me to see your love through all this, and don’t let me miss the lessons you want me to learn.
David asked the Lord, “Deal with me in unfailing love.” Lord, help us to see your love through the difficulty. May we stand on the truth (Eph 6:13-14) that everything you put in our life is motivated by your love for us! Here’s a few more verses to meditate on:
- Psalm 25:10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness
- Psalm 136 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
- Your steadfast love created this world for us! You made it with everything we needed, and more. Color, flowers, the smell and taste of pepperoni pizza! (Ps 136:5-9)
- Your steadfast love compelled you to do wonders to deliver Israel from Egypt. (Ps 136:10-16)
- Your steadfast love overcame rulers and kingdoms to provide Israel a land and make them a kingdom. (Ps 136:11-22)
- Your steadfast love always remembers us. Your steadfast love rescues us from our foes and provides for our daily needs. “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” (Ps 136:23-26
- Ps 63:3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you
- Ps 36:5-7 Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
- Jer 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
David also asked the Lord, “Teach me your decrees.” As you face whatever circumstance you are asked to endure today, we too should be asking, “God, what do you want me to learn from this? What work do you want to do in my heart? (Phil 1:6) Then, believe Him to be at work, and learn to rest in that by faith.
What is faith? In a sermon I listened to recently by Charles Price, talking about Philippians 3:1-11, he defined faith as, “an attitude towards an object that lets that object work on my behalf.” He continued to say, “That’s why spiritual reality derives from the measure to which God becomes the explanation for my life, because I’m living in dependency on him and obedience to him. You see, if our Christianity can be explained in terms of our abilities, our gifts, our personalities, our disciplines, our interests. It requires nothing supernatural. But when the explanation becomes God is at work in that life, your life, my life. Then it’s the real thing.
Application
- Trust our Father’s heart. Believe His character, and His plan! ALL HIS PATHS are steadfast love and faithfulness! (Ps 25:10)
- He longs to purify and perfect our faith (1 Peter 1:6-7)
- He longs for your life to be His instrument, your hands his with which He works, your feet with which He goes, your mouth with which He speaks, and your ears who hear and are sensitive to the interests, cares and needs of those around you! (Phil 2:13)
Psalm 119:124-125 My eyes strain to see your rescue, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled. I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love, and teach me your decrees. Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws.
