One year ago, our family began working full-time to find partners for extending the Gospel further into Mexico. We knew then that we would be required to raise 75% of our recommended budget before we’d be allowed to make travel plans… and that financial goal seemed a very long distance from where we stood! How on earth would we judge that we were getting close to leaving? The milestone that we chose was sixty percent: once we received 60% of our total financial support, we would consider our departure for Mexico to be close at hand.
Can you guess where this is going?
Last week, we celebrated the addition of another family to our team of partners! And with their help, we saw our current support level reach that long-awaited 60% milestone.
This has been a very long journey for Amy and I. God has stretched and grown us, using this year to teach us about Himself… often by giving us nothing else sufficient to rest upon! And this season of life is still not done; there is still work ahead. Yet today, all we can do is stop and praise God for His faithfulness!
Some of the other significant things that have happened this past week:
- Elayne celebrated her fifth birthday on Sunday!
- Amy and I began preliminary Spanish language study, aimed at helping us hit the ground running once the Lord brings us to Chihuahua.
- We learned that our minivan can in fact tow a cargo trailer, solving various logistical questions about our traveling timetable and storage space in Mexico.
- Newport Southern Baptist invited us to join their monthly community outreach, which enjoyed great success!
- God simplified our search for my replacement laptop, helping us perceive a way to cut the estimated cost nearly in half.
- We began a project which, when done, will help us shed a little more light on what our preparations for Mexico look like on a weekly basis.
We can’t wait to see what God does in the weeks to come! Ultimately, all of our planning and preparations are meaningless if not done to God’s glory… and that is our greatest desire as we move forward each day. Our privilege in Mexico is to be used by God to reveal Himself to a people who do not know Who He is… and we are so excited to see Him bring us closer to the beginning of that work!

And we’ll all be there waiting for you at home plate! To welcome you and send you on to Mexico!
The people of Mexico will be blessed to have you tell them about Jesus and His love for them. What
a privilege for you to be called in such a great way. As obedient children of God, he has trusted you
to do that job and you have done your best in that direction. God will bring you home in His timing.
My prayers and the prayers of others will surround you and keep you safe. May God bless you and
continue to lead you in His direction.
Love you and Like you,
Grammie/GiGi
