Do you have any recipes from your mother, aunt, or grandmother? For many years, Ginger has had a desire to make a recipe book of our favorite meals from our families, from other missionaries, and from friends.
As we have lived for many years in the Philippines, most of these recipes are prepared from scratch and are not prepared in five minutes by opening this can or that can. These recipes are not cooked in five minutes by using a microwave.
This cookbook probably won’t have Ginger’s tips, but if it did, some of her tips might be:
Tip #1: Make sure there are no ants in the sugar container by giving the container a tap or two, allowing the ants to run away.
Tip #2: The easiest way to get the bugs out of your store-bought noodles is by putting the noodles in boiling water and then removing the bugs as they float to the top of the water.
Tip #3: Pick out anything “suspicious” from your hamburger meat before cooking.
Tip #4: Don’t let your family see you pick the worms out of the eggplant, or they will never want to eat eggplant again.
If the cookbook had a tip from Stephen, it would be: Don’t ask your wife what she is doing when she is preparing a meal. Ignorance is better than knowing the truth.
All in all, we are amazed at the time and effort Ginger spends to make sure her family is fed well. And as Stephen often prays, “Thank you Lord for the hands who prepared this food.”
