What do you spend your Monday mornings thinking about? Getting the kids ready for another week of school? Your morning commute? How awesome the pastor’s sermon was yesterday? Well, a few weeks ago I spent my Monday morning thinking about my yodel. Out here in Pal country, we live right in the middle of some […]

One of the things on my “I want to see/do in Papua New Guinea” list was to see the dangerous and feared muruk bird. They live in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and can be quite dangerous as a full grown one has the leg power to break bones or bash skulls. While, thankfully, […]

My coworker took these pics while we were out together learning language. We’ve been planning for the rest of the year, scheduling flights and house building teams and what not, and I thought I’d share with you what the rest of 2012 holds for the Hostetter clan. Lord Willing. . . The heli will be […]

The sick boy that was talked about in our previous post has died. Yesterday I helped the family as they chopped down a tree and used their knives to carve it into boards for a coffin. Today they will be burying him. We do not know if the boy could have been saved had he […]

Included is solar panels, […]

Yesterday, a large group of guys from a three-hours-hike-away village came to help us clear the land where our house is going to be. Yesterday we chatted with them and marked out the area we wanted cleared and then this morning they got to work. It was amazing how much they could accomplish in such […]

Today was a busy day. A good day, but a busy day. Many, many people were here today for a variety of reasons and my mind struggled to keep up with who everyone was, where they came from, and why they were here. We, the Claasens and us, were faced with a number of different […]

We wake shortly after 6am to the sound of Cole thumping down the hallway, or Bailey crying in her crib, or another of the typical sounds our dear children make with the rising of the sun. We drag ourselves from the warmth and comfort of our bed and search the pantry for something to feed […]
