26/09/2015 by Jan Wols

dry fieldIn the last 3 months we received only 10 mm of rain. A drought like turns even a lush tropical island like ours into a dust bowl with fire.

fire in the hills
Fires are getting out of hand and travel through large garden areas on the mountains / Een vuurtje kan zo uitgroeien tot een brand die door de tuingebieden op de heuvels heentrekt.

We try to inform the people about the likelihood of this drought to hold on for many more months…

fire on the field…and we advise the people not to wait on rain, to plant their new garden.

They need to find low moist valleys and continue to plant their crops.

dry taroLamogai and many of the other language groups in the west part of our island are affected by the drought.
Fire on hills at nightBecause we have a water-well on our center we are able to share with our neighbors.
People coming to get waterAt this time people are coming from miles around to get drinking water.
