Mattress shopping and leftover donuts don’t have much in common but hang on, here are one of those happenings in life that you just can’t plan.
Mattress shopping:
We have had a few visitors to our home since moving here, and it just so happens that one of them who came a few years ago mentioned more recently that our guest mattress is too soft. Why he waited until recently to tell us will remain a mystery, but God had a plan.
Have you shopped for a mattress lately? They aren’t cheap, and there are way too many options! So, we went mattress shopping. Our first stop was to a small mom-and-pop store about 30 minutes from us. There we met Braeden, who, it turns out, likes to talk. So, we talked —for about an hour! And it wasn’t all about mattresses! We shared the gospel with him. In the end, he knew he had a decision to make. He said he had never heard anyone explain it the way we did and that we needed to be sharing this good news with EVERYONE! We gave him a copy of What Are Christmas and Easter All About.
After visiting two more stores, we still haven’t purchased a mattress, but we aren’t in a hurry.
Leftover donuts:
Our church serves a meal before Bible study on Wednesday evenings when the local school is in session. Many who come are from broken homes and don’t attend church on Sunday. Laura and I have enjoyed helping with the elementary children.
As the church planned for Easter, they encouraged the Wednesday night kids to come Sunday morning with their families. They told them that there would be donuts and to be early! A number of them came. The church was crowded on Easter morning, and we had to add more chairs.
Afterward, as we helped clean up, we discovered some extra donuts. We called the one in charge who told us to give them away. We thought of our neighbor, Jeff! Jeff is a mechanic who often works on cars in his yard. As soon as we got home, I brought him a half dozen donuts, and sure enough, he was working on a truck. Jeff introduced me to Skyler, whose truck he was repairing. He said Skyler was his unofficial stepson. As Skyler ate a donut, I shared the gospel with him. During our conversation, I mentioned the young man at the mattress store. Come to find out, Skyler and Braeden know each other! He also said that no one had ever explained the gospel to him the way I explained it. I also gave him a copy of What are Christmas and Easter All About.
Please pray for these two young men that God would cause the seed sown and watered to sprout and bear fruit.
We don’t know what God is doing, but He is obviously at work. If our previous guest hadn’t mentioned the mattress and if there hadn’t been leftover donuts, we wouldn’t be writing this story.
Thank you:
In our last update, we had several prayer requests. Thank you for praying. We are helping facilitate SYIS in a church and online. More about that in our next update. Thank you for your partnership with us
Secure in Christ,
