. . . and the game didn’t quite go as planned

August 10, 2025 by Hans and Liliana Frank

These game is usually a source of laughter and excitement, however, for them, their reaction was, “Nooo! You can’t take someone else’s gift!”
AND THE BIRTHDAY HAS ARRIVED . . .
Two of the girls had birthdays just before and after Liliana’s, so we decided to celebrate a party for all three. There was a piñata, cake, and chicken with rice for everyone!

Happy Birthday to These Lovely Ladies!

The children were delighted. Meanwhile, Liliana organized a well-known game with the women called White Elephant. The dynamic involves exchanging gifts, with the goal of ending up with the one each person likes the most—even if it means taking it from someone else.

In our culture, these kinds of games are usually a source of laughter and excitement: everyone wants to see who ends up with the most coveted gift. However, for them, the idea was confusing. Their reaction was something like, “Nooo! You can’t take someone else’s gift!”

So, in the end, each woman kept the gift they originally received, and the game didn’t quite go as planned. Still, they were happy.

Who’s ready to smash the piñata?!

And with the white elephant, we were left frustrated.

That day, we learned much more about the culture, and we could see how grateful the women were. In the afternoon, after a small celebration, several of them approached Liliana to give her gifts of fish, oranges, a chicken, and even a misirʉ, a beautiful traditional bag. It was truly a special day—Liliana felt deeply happy and grateful.

We took this opportunity to thank everyone who supports us, both financially and through their prayers. We also want to give special thanks to the sisters from our church in Bogota, who helped us with some of the gifts for the women, as well as with the sodas and cakes.

WORLDVIEW WORKSHOP

During the month of June, we had the privilege of participating in a workshop on Worldview and Biblical Teaching, organized by our missionary agency.

Together with fellow missionaries already engaged in creating Bible lessons for the indigenous nations they serve, we received comprehensive training to further equip us for ministry.

We left this workshop feeling very encouraged, as it provided us with valuable tools to work with the culture of the Ko’revajʉ people.

It gave us insight into the reality of their worldview—a connection with the spiritual world that feels impersonal, cold, and uncertain—enabling us to guide them toward a true relationship with God: one that is personal, loving, and secure.

At this stage of our ministry, it is essential to identify the beliefs they perceive as the root cause of what is happening in their lives—deep-seated ideas, internalized since childhood and regarded as unquestionable truths.
So we will keep track of the stories, ideas, and assumptions people have—especially those that conflict with biblical truth. That way, when the time comes to teach them, we’ll know exactly how to bring God’s Word into those areas and help them see what’s true and what isn’t, based on Scripture.

Our PRAYER
 REQUESTS

– We are deeply grateful to God for the ongoing training and invaluable consulting we receive from our mission. It has been a tremendous blessing, strengthening our calling to cross-cultural church planting. We are encouraged to see how faithfully God continues to guide our steps.

– We would also appreciate your prayers as we continue learning the Ko’revajʉ language. We ask the Lord to help us retain what we’ve already studied and to sharpen our ears so we can better understand the people we serve. We recognize that this process is essential for forming meaningful, heart-level connections with the community.

Thank you for walking alongside us through your prayers and support.
