Studying Paid Off

July 12, 2022 by Hans and Liliana Frank

We see with joy and surprise that we can already distinguish some words.

Studying paid off…
It is interesting that just a couple of months ago, this language was so mysterious to us that we could not understand a word that the Koreguaje people were saying. Everything seemed the same sound and we did not understand anything that they expressed in their own language.

Now, on our last visit to one of the Koreguaje villages and after having practiced and listened for several weeks what we learned from the language on the first visit, we see with joy and surprise that we can already distinguish some words, especially greetings, and names of some animals.
Even with a children´s game we can practice the language using the names of the boa constrictor (okoaña), the snake (aña), the duck (pente) and the dog (jamuchai).
It was very encouraging that the children understood.
We move forward thinking of a healthy church among the Koreguaje. We see people, greatly cherised by the Lord, come to church, but they lack access to God’s Word and do not receive deep teaching about God’s character and His saving grace.

It is our desire and goal to provide what is missing, not only for this church but for the other 8 churches that are scattered in different villages of the Koreguaje territory.

That is why we need to understand. . .
Understanding the language, but also the Koreguaje way of thinking is our job at the moment.   Although we are invited to share in Spanish and we do, we know that we do not get very deep into the hearts of the people, because we do not know their way of thinking; and it is so why, the language of his heart, which is Korebaju, becomes the most appropriate channel of communication.

To achieve this we need to go by levels, now we are at the most basic level on which we are going to focus for the next few months. We thank God that we have the help of consultants with experience in the learning of tribal languages who can guide us in this task.

With our partners we create a site in “the cloud” where we can all have access to what each one has found and we can all study what is posted there. The Koreguaje friends have been very kind and cooperative with us, patiently teaching us their words.

We want to show you in this video a short summary of what a trip to an indigenous village is like, based on the images of our last trip to Jericha.

OUR requests
 of PRAYER

– For discipline and the grace of the Lord in learning the culture and language.

– For the security in the region so that we can move freely around the area.

– For good possibilities to learn about the culture and the language in our visits.

-May the Lord continue to fill our three children with his grace and wisdom.
