Sown along the path?

May 31, 2023 by Hans and Liliana Frank

But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. (Matthew 13:23)
The missionary work among the Koreguaje has received a lot of attention from different evangelical denominations. There are churches with indigenous pastors, there are social projects and even a new literacy program. The New Testament has already been translated and can be read from the cell phone and obtained in audio. There are portions of the Old Testament printed and the Jesus film has already been translated into Korebajü.

But, despite so many resources, among the people there is little mention of the Lord Jesus Christ, mostly one hears about God. Churches are poorly attended, have no evangelism or Sunday school programs, discipleship is scarce, and God’s Word is not studied or read.
Sown along the path?
Thinking about the needs of the koreguaje missionary work, reading in the 13th chapter of Matthew the “Parable of the Sower” calls attention to the seed sown along the path. In verse 19, Jesus explains that it is the situation of those who hear the word and do not understand it.
Those who have participated with very good intentions in the missionary work among the Koreguaje, have done the work with great effort. But without taking into account the culture and without teaching in the Korebajü language. Therefore, from our perspective, because the Gospel was preached in Spanish and thought from the Occidental culture, it is as if that seed had fallen “along the path”.

We see that many of our Koreguaje friends do not seem to have understood the Gospel well and need a deeper understanding, so that the seed falls on the good soil and bears the expected fruit (Matthew 13:23).
We are building a house
In order to make faster progress in understanding and communicating the Korebajü culture and language, we supported the construction of a pastoral house in one of the Koreguaje communities. This house, will belong to the indigenous community, will be inhabited by our teammates who plan to live there and for us too, so that we are able to spend short seasons living among the Koreguaje.
(Left) Hans and Fredy, one of the Koreguaje pastors, a man who is very skilled in construction, fishing, hunting, music, and crafts. Also very eager to learn from the Bible. (Right) Hans at work, leveling the ground for the future house.
Friends and teammates, all with the same desire: to see a Koreguaje church that glorifies the Lord.
Our Koreguaje friends participating in the work.

It is also the place to wash clothes, and bathe.
At the beginning of May we had our first visit from our language consultants and leadership, to assess our progress. We left encouraged, because despite not living in the community we have been able to progress and we have new tasks and objectives to complete the language level we are currently at.
We need more vocabulary and to be able to master speaking in simple sentences with the words we already have and the ones we are going to get. Truly only God can give us the health, perseverance and wisdom to do this job.

We have the goal of finishing this year with the tasks that correspond to this 1st level of study, so when you remember us, please ask for these things, that the Lord gives us his grace to be able to reach this goal.

OUR requests

of PRAYER

– We thank the Lord for providing the place and the materials for the construction of the house.

– We thank the Lord for the grace he gives us before the people in the region.

– We continue to pray for the Lord’s care as we move through the region.

– For good chances to learn about the culture and the language on our visits to the area, so that we can reach the level we hope for by the end of this year.

– May the Lord continue to fill our three children with His grace and wisdom.
